Ansel Adams was a popular photographer during his time. Born to Charles Adams and Olivia Bray, Ansel grew up in San Francisco. His mother was about 40 years old when she had him, so his parents were older than most. While he was young , there was an earthquake, which caused him to fall, breaking his nose and leaving it dis-formed. Before becoming a photographer Adams was a musician. He taught himself how to play the piano at a young age, and later started taking lessons. He played the piano for years, but then gave it up to be a photographer. Before he went to private school, he was home schooled, but he was tortured but his father and his aunt. This resulted in Ansel getting a "legitimizing diploma" from a private school, but it was about the equivalent to passing the 8th grade. His first visualized photograph, monolith, Face of Half Dome, was taken in 1927.
I chose this picture because, it looks mysterious, and the contrast between the mountains and parts of the water is so drastic. The dark color of the water and the stillness gives this picture uneasy feeling, but it is a good feeling, ya know? The reflection of the mountains and trees are so clear and perfect looking, it amazes me that water could be so still. |
